Fiscal Year 2011 Maryland Heritage Areas Authority Grant Opportunities

Local jurisdictions and nonprofit organizations within the Canal Place Heritage Area may be eligible for Fiscal Year 2011 Maryland Heritage Areas Authority grants.

All grants are dollar-to-dollar match and require that at least 75% of the grant amount be cash match. Other State of Maryland funds cannot be used as part of the match.

Grants for non-capital projects may not exceed $50,000, and grants for capital projects may not exceed $100,000.

Projects must address or complete a priority activity identified in the approved heritage area management plan, which is available at canalplace.org. The boundaries for the Canal Place Heritage Area are also available on this website.

Eligible activities for non-capital projects include planning, design, interpretation, programming, K-12 curriculum development and teacher training, and K-12 curriculum interpretation.

Capital grants are available for the acquisition, development, rehabilitation, restoration, and pre-development of historic resources.

The complete application package, with one electronic copy and six hard copies, must be received in the Canal Place Heritage Area Office in the Western Maryland Railway Station, 13 Canal Street, Suite 301, by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2010.

A Canal Place Heritage Area Grants Committee will review all applications for approval and ranking before forwarding them to the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority for consideration.  Due to the time needed for the review process, all applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2010 and no exceptions can be made to this deadline.

Please visit the Maryland Historical Trust website (http://mht.maryland.gov/grants_heritagearea.html) for detailed information on these grant opportunities, application requirements, and project grant applications.  Contact Dominique Cozatt at (301) 724-3655 or dcozatt@canalplace.org with additional questions.
