The beautiful Canal Place plaza features a number of outdoor events and activities...from amusements to tasty treats, fine arts and heritage related activities.
In addition to the annual July CanalFest/RailFest celebration and the summertime music series, Saturdays Live!, Canal Place has hosted numerous organizations for a variety of activites, many focused on raising awareness and gathering support to aid in promoting health and wellness related issues.
The American Cancer Society has held numerous fundraising events at Canal Place. During the summer bicyclists rode on the recently opened Great Allegheny Passage to raise funds and awareness to fight leukemia and lymphoma. In the fall, the Pink Ribbon Challenge takes place as supporters gather at Canal Place to walk the C&O Canal Towpath to fight breast cancer.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society gathers at Canal Place each spring to conduct their annual MS Walk along the beautiful C&O Canal.
Bicycling enthusiasts from all over the world have also discovered Canal Place. In fact, Canal Place sits at the junction of the Great Allegheny Passage and the C&O Canal Towpath, creating the longest multi-purpose trail in the country. Riders can bike 335 scenic miles complete with spectacular mountain vistas, old railroad tunnels snaking through mountains, bridges looming over rushing rivers and passage over the Eastern Continental Divide as they pedal between and Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.
In addition, Canal Place has also hosted weddings, anniversary parties, carnivals, car shows, corn roasts and a whole list of other people friendly events.
